Rational for Religious Education at St. Alban's
Taken from the RE Policy
The purpose of Religious Education at St Alban’s Catholic Primary School is to nurture the Catholic Faith, and its teachings, in our children. Our mission is to help the children in our school to know God and to recognise his presence in others. By helping them to live this faith, we hope to encourage our children to develop a better relationship with God and others around them.
We have Christ at the Centre of all we do, focusing on the active role that Jesus Christ plays in the daily life of a Catholic school community and ethos of our school. This connection can be seen throughout various aspects of school life including the opportunities for Prayer and Liturgy which are central to our faith. The ethos of the school is of great importance and we seek to create an atmosphere of love and respect, amongst all in our school community.
The Catholic school is a community of faith, and religious education is where that faith seeks understanding, where pupils learn to love God with all their minds. We highly value respect for each individual and encourage everyone to be honest, tolerant, just, and forgiving of one another. We recognise that every member of the St Alban’s Catholic Primary School community—staff, children, and parents—is on their own unique faith journey, each at a different stage.
Our RE policy, which can be found linked below, sets out the rationale, purposes and the time spent in the RE teaching at St. Alban’s. The yearly overview also provides further information as to when each topic is covered and what is covered within it.
