Our Class Saints
“The memory of the Saints leads us to raise our eyes to Heaven: not to forget the realities of the earth, but to face them with greater courage, with more hope.”
Pope Francis, Angelus, 1st November 2019
As Catholics, saints serve as examples for us, motivating us to lead lives of holiness and providing the strength to become the individuals God intended us to be.
In our Catholic school, the saints chosen for each class act as spiritual guides for our students, embodying virtues and principles that align with our faith-centered educational approach. These influential figures from the Church offer a concrete example of living a life rooted in faith and service, encouraging both personal and academic development. The class saints also promote a sense of unity and identity within the classroom, offering a common patron for communal prayer, reflection, and religious activities.
Each class will take inspiration from their saint, learn about their life throughout the year, celebrate their feast day and talk to them during classroom collective worship.
Reception - St. Philomena
St. Philomena is a great saint because she showed incredible strength and courage in her faith, even when faced with very difficult challenges. When she was a young girl, she loved Jesus very much and wanted to stay true to her faith. Even though she was treated very badly for her beliefs, she never gave up on her love for God.
Her story teaches us to be brave and to always trust in God, even when things are hard. St. Philomena is also known for helping people who are sick or struggling, and many people pray to her for help. She is a wonderful example of kindness, bravery, and staying strong in our faith, no matter what.
Year 1 - St. Francis
St. Francis of Assisi is a wonderful saint because he showed us how to love God, people, and all of nature in a very special way. He lived a simple and humble life, helping the poor, caring for the sick, and sharing kindness with everyone he met. St. Francis believed that every creature—birds, animals, and even the sun and moon—were gifts from God, and he treated them with love and respect.
He also taught us how to live peacefully and to trust God to take care of us. St. Francis reminds us that being kind, loving, and thankful can bring us closer to God and make the world a better place. That’s why he’s known as the patron saint of animals, the environment, and peace!
Year 2 - St. Angela Merici
St. Angela Merici is a great saint because she loved God deeply and worked hard to help others, especially young girls. She believed that education was very important and wanted every child to have the equal opportunity to learn about God and the world.
She started a group of women called the Ursulines to teach girls and help them grow into strong, kind, and loving people. St. Angela showed how we can serve God by caring for others and teaching them to be their best. She reminds us to be brave, kind, and to share God’s love through the way we live!
Year 3 - St. Dominic
St. Dominic is a wonderful saint because he loved God very much and wanted everyone to learn about God’s love. He spent his life teaching people about Jesus and helping them understand how to live good and holy lives. St. Dominic was also very kind and cared for the poor, always sharing what he had with others.
He started a group called the Dominicans, who continue his work by teaching and preaching about God all over the world. St. Dominic reminds us that learning about God and sharing His love with others can bring happiness and peace to everyone!
Year 4 - St. Cecilia
St. Cecilia is a special saint because she loved God so much that she praised Him with music and singing. Even when life was hard, she stayed strong in her faith and trusted in God’s love.
She is the patron saint of music because she used her songs to show her love for God and inspire others. St. Cecilia reminds us that we can use our talents, like music, to bring joy to others and to honor God. She teaches us to stay brave and faithful no matter what!
Year 5 - St. Bernadette
St. Bernadette is a wonderful saint because she showed great faith and trust in God, even when things were difficult. When she was a young girl, she saw the Blessed Virgin Mary in a series of visions at a place called Lourdes. Mary asked her to pray, help others turn to God, and to dig for a spring of water, which became a source of healing for many people.
St. Bernadette stayed humble and never sought attention for herself. She reminds us to trust God, to pray, and to be kind and humble. Her story also shows that God can work through anyone, even a simple and humble child, to bring His love to the world!
Year 6 - ST. Oscar ROmero
St. Oscar Romero is a great saint because he stood up for what is right and cared deeply for people who were poor or treated unfairly. He was a priest and then a bishop in El Salvador, and he spoke out against injustice, violence, and poverty. He wanted everyone to know that every person is loved by God and deserves to be treated with respect and dignity.
St. Oscar Romero lived out Catholic Social Teaching by showing how important it is to care for the poor and to work for justice and peace. He reminds us that we should stand up for others, especially those who are suffering, and do our best to make the world a kinder, fairer place. Even when it was dangerous, he trusted God and stood up for what was right, teaching us to be brave and loving too!
